Annual Elvis Death Day Dinner

It’s August, and that means it’s time once again to celebrate the anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death by eating too much and reading ridiculous stories about the King. As before, we cooked up some of the most fried and butter-laden goodness we could think of, and read choice excerpts from the book Elvis and the Memphis Mafia. What better way to spend a Saturday than hearing about Elvis shooting out TVs and filling limos with live chickens?

Restaurant Week

It’s restaurant week again in Washington, DC – a great opportunity to try out some of the area’s best restaurants at slightly more affordable prices. Stephanie made two picks for us this year, the first taking us to Vidalia for a really great dinner. It was a nicer place than we’d ever probably go to on our own, but we made sure to be on our best behavior. Highly recommended for special occasions. Our second of two reservations is on Sunday the 17th for lunch at Oyamel, which features the “current urban cuisine” of Mexico City. We’ll see how that goes.

NASCAR race, website updates

Stephanie and I made it back from our trip to upstate New York for the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen this past weekend. We’ve been to a couple of races before, but this was our first experience at a “road course” – it was very different, but a lot of fun! Photos have been posted (more about this below). It was also a great chance to see some family in and around Syracuse. It had been too long, and being able to catch up with everyone really meant a lot to us.

I have also been working steadily on getting some of our photo collections up online through Google’s Picasa software. It’s actually been a fun process to go through our digital shots, and pseudo-geotagging and captioning them. Albums are accessible via the “Photos” link above.

The Grand Unveiling

Welcome to teamAHearn.com! I’m still working on a ton of nerd stuff behind the scenes, but decided that it was far enough along to release. My intention was to make it somewhat different from scottahearn.com (which will continue to live on, but trimmed down and without the blog). This site’s main focus will obviously be the blog for me and Stephanie, with added emphasis on photos and possibly even video – provided I can figure out how to do all that, of course.

And a heads-up to my RSS subscribers, make sure you get the new feed via the “Subscribe” section to the right. I’ll be deactivating the feed on scottahearn.com soon. And for the time being, this feed will only include blog posts – no “reading/listening/watching” content yet.
