Things have been pretty hectic lately, but I can’t let August slip away without mentioning a few things. First, though it was a few days early, on the 11th we hosted our annual Elvis Death Day dinner, complete with some of the King’s favorite fried foods, his music, and the best stories from his entourage. The very next morning, we saw off our friends Aaron and Kristy as they embarked on a year-long (at least) trip to China where Aaron will be teaching. It’s a very exciting time for them and we wish them well. Thank goodness for Skype!
Back on the home front, Stephanie goes back to school today (albeit half time), so Lily has started with at-home child care with one of Steph’s former colleagues. This comes at a fun time as Lily is teething something fierce, and really developing some great attachment issues. I haven’t received any calls yet, though, so hopefully things are going well. I suppose the anxiety is something every parent must deal with – what will we do when she starts driving?!

Lily is a whopping six months old today and she celebrated by showing off her first tooth! We also went to our neighborhood pool this afternoon for her first dip in the over-chlorinated-yet-still-rancid baby pool. Like her visits to the beach in July, she spent the time squealing with delight and having a blast. Photos and video to come.
On the sleeping front, we’ve had great success. It took Lily maybe four days to really get used to the new routine, but before we knew it she was going down for the night quickly and quietly – and sleeping hard for hours. She’ll still wake herself up and fuss a bit now and then, but all we need to do is show our face and she’s right back asleep. Conversely, naps are a continuing challenge. When she does go down without a fuss (which is rare), she wakes up 30 minutes later. And when I say 30 minutes, I mean, “set your watch to it.” It’s scary. But a half an hour at a time isn’t enough, and it makes her tired and cranky as the day progresses. We’ll get there.

I added a new “About” section to the site the other day, mostly to serve as a home to our Web 2.0-esque links, such as Amazon wishlists and Facebook. This also allowed me to clean up the sidebar content somewhat, and streamline the “Contact” page.
In other site-related news, I’m still trying to decide the fate of scottahearn.com, my long-time personal site. With the launch of teamAHearn.com, my intent was to keep some of the technical writings up there. But like most content of that ilk, it was becoming embarrassingly out-dated after just a year or two. I’ve also received a few offers for the domain over the years, which shows me that other Scott Ahearns out there have a genuine interest in getting some actual use out of it. <shrug> I’ll figure something out. With all my free time.
