Nine months

We’ve heard from other parents that this age is a really crazy time. It’s the truth. Not only is Lily now crawling like a champ, she’s pulling herself up on everything, and is able to roll around and maneuver herself from any position. This includes her crib – which means that when she should be sleeping, she now prefers to stand up and yell. No tears, just lots of discussion. So for the past two weeks or so naps and nighttime have been interesting.

She is eating much, much better, and we’ve been able to get her used to foods that she not only enjoys but that she isn’t allergic to. Lots of oatmeal, pears, bananas, and little rice cracker things called “Mum mums.” Coming soon, more veggies and various proteins – then, beef jerky and sardines with daddy!

Autumn, also known as “Fall”

Lily took her first big tumble the other day. We had just come back from the doctor because she was having (and continues to have) some .. “diaper troubles.” Her pediatrician suspected it was something she ate, as we had started her on some new foods last week. Anyway, we were preparing to go for a walk in her Bjorn, because that always puts her in a good mood. I sat Lily on the couch as always, and was harnessing up. I turned for – seriously – 1.5 seconds. Just long enough for her to reach forward and go head first off the couch. It’s barely a foot up, and the floor is carpeted, but it took daddy’s breath away. She was wailing, of course, so we did a once over and called the doctor. Since she had fallen on her head (despite having somewhat broken her fall with her hands, from what I could see out of the corner of my eye), they wanted to check her out. Long story short, she was a giggling goofball at the doctor and got a completely clean bill of health. A heart attack each for mommy and daddy, though. And a lesson learned to sit her on the floor from now on.

In other baby news, she’s now officially crawling [forward]! She’s eating somewhat better and is gaining good weight – up to just under 17 pounds! We’re also pretty sure we’ve heard purposeful “da da” and “ma ma” utterances. There’s no doubt she’s going to be a heck of a talker.

Halloween

Lily celebrated her first Halloween last night dressing up as Nemo, the clown fish from the Disney movie Finding Nemo. She’s got a little stuffed Nemo which is one of her favorite toys, so she was ecstatic to be covered in orange and white. Her photo album has been updated with all the latest.

Before she got dressed up, though, she helped mommy and daddy clean out and carve the pumpkin. I .. should have put down more newspaper. And stripped her down to her diaper. Lesson learned.
