A week or two ago, we were randomly selected to take part in Arbitron radio ratings. This is actually proving to be somewhat fun: we get to keep a daily “diary” of what we listen to, including which station, time spent at that station, and where we physically are at the time (car, work, home, etc.). They have also asked that we include any time spent listening to my XM Satellite Radio and even any random Internet streams! I initially thought I’d mess with the ratings and say I listened to the Washington, DC Spanish station all the time, but I figured I should be good and record my listening habits properly. So far today my attentions have been focused on classic rock, XM jazz, and a “morning zoo.”

This month is crazy, and I’m not referring to the hints of spring weather taunting the District. Stephanie and I are off to see Lisa Loeb tonight, which we’re really looking forward to. Then it’s out-of-town guests, a wedding shower, and family time over the weekend. For spring break (the 21st-25th), we’ll be in Orlando, catching the attractions and visiting grandma in Daytona. Finally, our niece and nephew will be in town for Easter – we can’t wait to see them!

I’m a big fan of jazz music, and thought this story was quite interesting. I’ve actually never been to the Newport Jazz Festival, but it’s definitely on my “someday” list along with Oktoberfest in Munich.

I just heard about a PBS special called “The Way the Music Died,” scheduled to air tomorrow online. It’s going to address some of the major issues facing the current music industry including file swapping, declines in music quality, and strong emphasis on the visual image rather than the music and talent of the artist. This looks to be an important and critical piece, and brings up issues that are meaningful to all music lovers. Try to check it out.
